Refund Policy
You pay per word for one manuscript, and delivery is immediate. That shapes what you can cancel and when — set out here rather than left to be discovered.
Last updated: 11 August 2026
Please read: this policy is a working draft prepared as a starting point. It has not been reviewed by a qualified lawyer and is not legal advice. Have it checked against the law of your jurisdiction — and your actual business practices — before relying on it.
1. What you are buying
Each purchase covers one manuscript at $0.005 per source word: a scan across all our checks, plus unlimited rescans of that same manuscript for 30 days. There is no subscription and nothing renews, so there are no recurring charges to cancel.
2. Before your first scan — full refund
If you have paid but not yet run a scan, you may cancel for a full refund, no reason required. Email us and we will process it.
Once a scan has run, the service has been delivered and the sections below apply. Your rescan window continues to run for 30 days regardless of any refund discussion.
3. If you are outside Nigeria
Consumer law in the UK, the EU, and several other places gives you a right to cancel an online purchase within 14 days and get your money back without giving a reason. For digital services delivered immediately, you can give that right up — but only if you expressly agree to immediate delivery and acknowledge that you are giving it up, at the point of purchase.
Our checkout asks you to confirm exactly that before payment. If you did not confirm it, and your local law grants you that right, it survives your first scan and you may cancel within 14 days.
Nigerian consumers are protected by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018, which does not grant an equivalent general cooling-off right for digital services. Nothing in this policy removes any right that Act does give you.
To be completed: confirm with a lawyer that the checkout wording satisfies the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations and the EU Consumer Rights Directive, and that the confirmation is recorded against each transaction. Without that record this section is unenforceable.
4. When we refund
We refund in full or in part where:
- The scan did not work. It failed, returned nothing usable, or the service was unavailable for a sustained period inside your window.
- The results were plainly wrong for your document — for example a manuscript in a supported format returning findings unrelated to its content.
- You were charged incorrectly — a duplicated payment, a wrong word count, or a charge you did not authorise.
- Your manuscript could not be processed because of a format or length limitation not made clear before purchase.
- We suspended your access for reasons that turn out not to be your fault.
Raise these within 14 days of the charge or of the problem, whichever is later.
5. Word count disputes
Price follows word count, so a disagreement about the count is a disagreement about the price. We show our count and the resulting price before taking payment. If you believe it is wrong — because of how we treat references, footnotes, tables, or appendices — tell us before scanning and we will recount, or after scanning and we will refund any difference.
To be completed: state exactly what the count includes and excludes (abstract, references, footnotes, tables, captions, appendices) once the engine defines it. Ambiguity here is the most likely source of billing disputes.
6. When we do not refund
We would rather be direct about these now than argue later:
- Your manuscript was rejected by a journal. You paid for automated checking, not an outcome. Peer review is not ours to influence — see our Disclaimers.
- A reviewer criticised your content, methods, or conclusions. The scan checks language, citations, and formatting, not research quality.
- The scan did not find an error you later discovered. No proofreading process catches everything, and we do not claim otherwise.
- You disagree with particular suggestions. Suggestions require your judgement and are dismissed in one click; disagreeing with some is expected use, not a fault.
- You expected a human editor. The service is automated, stated throughout this site and in the Terms.
- An institution or journal objected to your use of an AI writing tool. Confirming permission is your responsibility.
- Your 30-day window expired unused. The window runs from purchase whether or not you use it — though see the next section.
7. Windows that expire through no fault of yours
If reviewer comments or supervisor feedback arrive after your window closes, contact us. Journal timelines are outside your control and it would be unreasonable to make you pay twice for the same paper. We would rather extend a window than defend a technicality.
8. Journal and publisher fees
Article processing charges and other publisher costs are paid by you directly to the publisher and form no part of our fee. We cannot refund them and cannot recover them on your behalf.
9. How to request a refund
- Email support@scriptreaders.com from the address on your account, with the approximate date of the charge and what went wrong.
- We acknowledge within 2 business days.
- We review the purchase, the scan history, and any service problems in that period, then explain our decision.
- Approved refunds are submitted to Paystack immediately on approval. Funds typically reach your account within 2–3 business days, depending on your bank.
10. If you are still unhappy
Tell us. If our first response does not resolve it, ask for the decision to be reviewed by someone not involved. Your statutory rights as a consumer — under the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018 or the law of your own country — are unaffected by anything in this policy.
11. Currency and fees
Prices are in US dollars and refunds are issued in the currency you paid. We are not responsible for exchange rate movements between payment and refund, or for fees your bank or card issuer charges on the transaction.
